Romanesque 

  • Round Arches
  • Roman Cathedrals are usually dark because architects did not put many windows into the church arches.
  • Massive, block like, domed and heavily vaulted structures
  • Shallower and short aisles
  • Tall, narrow windows called lancet windows were common in the

Renaissance 

  • Domes were first put in to churches in this era.
  • Renaissance cathedrals are a combination of both Gothic and Romanesque cathedrals.  
  • Glass stained windows are lightened
